Epic Member Spotlight – Eunah Fischer

1. How long have you been a member at CrossFit Fargo? 8 years in August.

2. What is your favorite thing about being a CrossFit Fargo athlete? I like that I actually consider myself an athlete at CFF (I was a “mathlete” in high school, no sports!). I like that if I can just show up, it’s automatically a win because I will get a great work out with great people. I am able to accomplish more things on the days that I crossfit, as I have more mental and emotional reserve afterwards.

3. What group fitness offerings do you typically participate in at CrossFit Fargo? Do you have a favorite? Discuss. After 8 years, I have participated at least once in every type of group offering at CFF, whether it’s Murph, judging for Dakota Games and the Meltdowns, competing/judging at FNL, the social gatherings, enrolling my kids in the summer CFF programs, the clinics (rowing x 3 or 4! Double unders, C&J) nutrition challenges, etc. I have realized that I do not really care for competing, so I am happy to give back to the CFF community by judging when time allows.

4. How would you describe the community at CrossFit Fargo? The community at CFF is warm, welcoming, inclusive, and results-oriented. In the 8 years, I have seen a lot of athletes and coaches/staff come and go, for a variety of reasons, but the spirit of community remains the same at each class I attend—and that’s due to the Coach and the Athletes who show up with the same goal.

5. What advice do you have for someone who is intimidated by group fitness? Be accepting of yourself, give yourself time and space. Try not to compare your body and abilities to others. Focus on how you feel at the end of class, and how you feel the rest of the day!

6. Favorite music to sweat to? I am tolerant of all music, though probably partial to the 80’s and 90’s stuff.

7. Favorite movement/workout? I like working on the clean. I am good at squats and deadlifts, though I try not to lift too heavy anymore. I like the rower and hate the bike. Does anyone like thrusters?

8. Is there a member of the CrossFit Fargo that inspires and motivates you to be better? Feel free to give them a shoutout! Well, there are quite a few, but I do want to give a shoutout to Megan Wolf who has shown consistency and dedication since she started. I also will give a shoutout to John Dalziel, for so many different reasons.

9. Favorite post-workout meal? I enjoy eating everything. But my routine is a protein drink and coffee.

10. What fitness-related goals do you have for 2022? I injured my shoulder in October 2021, and I have been pain-free only a couple of months now. I am now slowing trying to regain my strength without re-injury, to do all the movements and weights I was able to do in September 2021.

11. Describe your athletic abilities in five words or less. I have “barely a speck of athletic ability” (film Rudy) but I keep showing up!

12. Give us your background story. Stats- married, 2 kids- son at Notre Dame (Go Irish!) and daughter senior at Shanley (Go Deacons!), currently working at home as a physician for a health insurance company doing Utilization Management… previously at MeritCare/Sanford for over 10 years in Internal Medicine, also Board Certified in Geriatrics. Immigrated to the US at age 6, my first language is Korean, but I majored in English Literature before going to med school (tired of the math from high school, I really was in a club called Mathletes and we also did a Chemathon LOL). No organized sports in my background (I peaked as a basketball player in 6th grade when I had a growth spurt before all the other girls) but I did start running a little in my 20s, and did a half marathon at age 27. I have no desire to run that again, but after 8 years at CFF, I know that I could if I wanted to (at almost twice that age now!) So that’s the power of CrossFit Fargo for ya!
